Monitoring the initial and ongoing development of learner understandings is an essential part of a successful practice of formative assessment (assessing to inform instruction). Diagnostic assessment helps teachers go beyond simply knowing if their students get it or not by providing information about what the students are thinking.
FACET Innovations provides assistance to schools and districts in designing and developing diagnostic science assessments aligned with their curriculum as well as assistance in interpreting and reporting results.
We also developed and maintain a web site with diagnostic assessment and instructional tools for science teachers (found at Diagnoser.com). These tools are free for teachers to use in their classrooms. Expanding the content supported by the Diagnoser tools is an ongoing collaborative effort across many of our current projects. Please see The Diagnoser Project link to learn more.
